JCU - Far North Queensland Health Precinct
Cairns, Gimuy, Queensland
This precinct for the Far North Queensland community is intended to co-locate diverse range of activities with the intention of facilitating partnerships and catalyse innovation across Cairns, Far North Queensland and the Asia Pacific.
In collaboration with other existing community facilities, including the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service, and James Cook University, the master plan proposal focuses on how best to leverage these connections to the advantage of the community through:
-
Placemaking: Understanding context and care for Country
Recognising the history of the site: Creating a place that taps into the collective memory for the Cairns Region
Community focused: Drawing the community of people together to collaborate and innovate through biophilic design and networked connections
Strategic Planning including street edge activation, wayfinding and identity
Spaces designed to work with the environment such as courtyards for the tropics, experienced from multiple perspectives that also serves as an anchor to the precinct
